Adam Sutcliffe on anti-Semitism

Our 3rd speaker was Adam Sutcliffe from Independent Jewish Voices who offered a fascinating presentation about anti-Semitism. Adam highlighted some of the challenges that we commonly face in our work for a just peace in Palestine and offered strategies of how we can move forward in our work. It was highlighted that the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance has a working definition of Antisemitism and that in this definition we see six troubling examples of anti-Semitism which relate directly to criticism of the state of Israel. Adam left us with some practical suggestions of how to avoid anti-Semitism:

  • Be sensitive to the feelings and perspectives of others
  • Focus on what matters most
  • Don’t be deflected from principles of justice, human rights, solidarity and decency
