Balfour Project events

CALL TO ACTION IN SCOTLAND
Next month the Balfour Project will hold two major events in Scotland dealing with Britain’s role in, and historical responsibility for, the current state of affairs in Palestine and Israel. These events focus on Gaza, home to two million Palestinians living in intolerable conditions. According to the UN, by 2020 Gaza, an integral part of Palestine, will be uninhabitable.

We will hold a seminar at Glasgow University on Thursday 14 March, and a half-day conference at Edinburgh University on Sunday 17 March.

The Glasgow seminar ‘The news from Gaza – dispelling myths and telling the truth’ will be chaired by journalist Allan Little, Chair of the Edinburgh Book Festival. It will bring together British journalists specialising in the Middle East, together with Jamie McGoldrick, UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Palestine and others who know the situation intimately.

‘Tragedy in Gaza – Britain’s legacy, Scotland’s role’ is the theme of the half-day conference in Edinburgh. ‘We British have a duty to advance human rights for all in Israel and Palestine,’ the flyer states. ‘How do we do it? What is Scotland’s role?’ These questions will be examined in three panels by Members of Parliament, historians, former diplomats and a representative of the Church of Scotland. It will conclude with a Call to Action by Sir Vincent Fean, Chair of the Balfour Project.

Both events will allow plenty of time for audience participation. They are free. Please book through Eventbrite for Glasgow and EdinburghDonations to cover expenses are welcome. Further information can be found by accessing the remote content in this message, or at www.balfourproject.org where flyers can be downloaded.
