Yesterday (5th May) our friends at EAPPI launched a campaign action targeted at UK MPs regarding Israel’s plans to annex large parts of the West Bank (including the Jordan Valley) from July 1st. Please take urgent action today to help prevent the imminent annexation of occupied Palestine
The Israeli government has announced that from 1 July it will bring forward legislation to formally and illegally annex significant parts of occupied Palestine. This announcement has been condemned internationally. In the UK, nearly 140 MPs have signed an unprecedented cross-party letter calling on the Prime Minister to place sanctions on Israel if these plans are carried out.
With only weeks to go before the 1 July deadline, we are now in an urgent race to save any chance of a lasting peace between Palestine and Israel, and the two-state solution.
Please can you spare two minutes today to take one of the following actions:
• If your MP has signed the letter, please take the first action below.
• If your MP has not signed the letter, please take the second action below.
You can read the MPs’ letter and see who has signed it by clicking here. An article in The Guardian about this unprecedented letter can be seen by clicking here. First action – if your MP has signed the letter
You can click here to see if your MP has signed the letter already. If your MP has signed the letter, please write to them to say the following:
Thank them for signing the letter and for taking action to uphold international law.
Ask that they write to the Foreign Secretary on your behalf to express your concerns about the annexation plans.
Ask them to urge the Foreign Secretary to state publicly that that the UK will place sanctions on the Israeli government if legislation is brought forward to annex Palestinian land. This includes banning all trade with Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian land, and preventing all UK based companies from operating in and contributing to the running of settlements.
Send them this link to a short briefing for MPs by Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights on the UK’s international legal obligations regarding annexation.
You can find your MP’s contact details by clicking here. Please make sure to add your home address to your letter/email as MPs are only required to respond to requests sent by their own constituents.
Please let us know at if you hear back from your MP. Thank you.
