Skip the Trip – new campaign action
In the face of growing BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) campaigns in support of freedom, justice, and equality, Israel is offering actors, actresses, and directors nominated for an Academy Award this year a $55,000 all-expenses paid trip to Israel as part of its ongoing efforts to hide its violations of Palestinian rights.

Getting celebrities to come to Israel is part of a “Brand Israel” strategy to improve Israel’s image abroad to counter worldwide outrage over its oppression of Palestinians. Israeli tourism minister Yariv Levin explained: “These are the most senior people in the film industry in Hollywood and leading opinion-formers who we are interested in hosting. Their visit will have enormous resonance among millions of fans and followers, including social media.”
This trip offering comes in the midst of the #OscarsSoWhite scandal with only white actors and actresses nominated in the top four categories for the second year in a row.
