Student Christian Movement Magazine ‘Conscientization’ Covers Advocacy for Palestine

The Student Christian Movement’s latest issue of their Movement Magazine, edited by our Advocacy Officer for Under 35’s, Victoria, introduced students to justice issues in Palestine.

The Student Christian Movement is the oldest Christian student Community in the UK, founded in 1889, and they have been at the forefront of justice concerns and issues for generations! This 2007 SPCK publication by Robin Boyd, an SCM member and missionary recounts how the ecumenical movement can be traced to the SCM, their involvement in resistance to the Reich Church during WW2, the disbanding of the missionary arm in 1952 as a proud statement against existing coloniality in Christian mission (to give just a few examples), and today the organisation is at the forefront for advocating for inclusive theologies and places of belonging for LGTBQ+ Christians.

This issue (167) of the termly published magazine wrestled with justice issues in Palestine. Victoria held an interview with Muna Nassar- previously staff at Kairos Palestine and now working for the World Communion of Reformed Churches, an article by Josh Mock, a BA Arabic and Persian student at SOAS and an SCM Trustee, reflections on ‘conscientization’ and Palestine from Victoria, and a prayer for peace from Mira Neaimeh, the Middle East Executive from the World Student Christian Federation.
