Time to Act: A Just Peace for all who call the Holy Land home

22 June 2026. Today the Just Peace coalition launches the Time to Act campaign, bringing together churches and Christian organisations in the UK to respond to the urgent calls from Palestinian Christians.

Across Palestine and Israel, communities are living through devastating violence, loss and injustice. Palestinian Christians have called on the global Church to respond not with silence or despair, but with courage, compassion, and action.

Sabeel-Kairos UK is part of the Just Peace Coalition which has 18 members organisations already, and is growing each week. Together, we are inviting individuals, churches, and communities to join our Time to Act campaign and commit to working and praying for a just peace for all who call the Holy Land home. Members of the coalition include All We Can, Amos Trust, CAFOD, Christian Aid, Christians for Palestine, Church in Wales, Commitment for Life, EAPPI UK & Ireland, Embrace the Middle East, Iona Community, Justice and Peace Scotland, Methodist Church, Pax Christi England and Wales, Quakers in Britain, Sabeel-Kairos UK, SCIAF, Union of Welsh Independents and the United Reformed Church.

This is not simply a moment of awareness. It is time to act.

The campaign has been endorsed by Palestinian church leaders, theologians and Christians, as well as UK Church leaders. Here are some of those endorsements:

Time to Act provides us with the opportunity to come together as Christians and to advocate for a just peace in Israel and Palestine – a peace characterised by the active promotion of justice and the nurturing of equitable relationship within and between communities so that everyone can live life in all its fullness. I encourage all Christians to join this campaign and to seek this peace and to pursue it with all the urgency that it requires.

Stephen Cottrell,  Archbishop of York

From the heart of the Holy Land, we see daily the profound longing for a peace rooted in true justice, equality, and the restoration of human dignity for all. The Time to Act campaign calls the global Church to move beyond passive observation and into meaningful, prayerful solidarity with those who suffer. I warmly encourage all Christians to join this vital movement, acting together to build a future where every child of God in our region can live in safety, freedom, and peace.

The Most Revd Hosam Naoum | Anglican Archbishop in Jerusalem and Primate of Jerusalem and the Middle East.

For many years, we have appealed to the global Church not merely to pray for us, but to stand with us through what we have called costly solidarity—a solidarity willing to confront injustice, challenge political complicity, and work actively for a just peace. The Time to Act campaign represents an important opportunity for churches across Britain and Ireland to embody this commitment through coordinated witness and action. We especially welcome the campaign’s efforts to amplify the voices of Palestinian Christians, strengthen solidarity between churches, and encourage concrete steps that contribute to ending oppression and securing freedom, equality, security, and dignity for all people living in the Holy Land.

+ Patriarch Emeritus Michel Sabbah (Chair of Kairos Palestine) and Rifat Kassis (General Coordinator)

I have been in the West Bank with Palestinian Christians earlier this year and heard their longing desire for a just peace. Time To Act offers church leaders and partners an opportunity to share and respond to this desire in active solidarity and in strong united prayer and protest.

Mark Slaney | Chair Scotland District & Shetland District And Designate Methodist Conference President

As Christians we believe that every person is created in the image of God, thus working for a just peace in Israel and Palestine requires us to uphold the human dignity of every person and to advocate for and stand alongside all those struggling on a daily basis, often under the most precarious of conditions.  Responding to specific injustices requires even more than an offering of thoughts and prayers. Indeed, it demands a costly discipleship in which we commit together to work tirelessly and lovingly for the peace of Christ in the Holy Land. I am grateful to the Just Peace Coalition for providing such a timely opportunity for Christians to do just that. I encourage all those that have a passion for peace and justice to join me in the Time To Act campaign. The time to act is now.

Rachel Treweek | Bishop of Gloucester and Anglican Bishop for HM Prisons
